Spirit Prayer – American Buffalo (Abundance)

American Buffalo,
You offered yourself,
so Native Americans could live.
Then, overly zealous white ones came,
and took your breath for sport.

Loss of physical life,
deprived you of sensation.
How long did you lie there, numb in spirit,
before resurrecting?

Did you ever regret the sacrifice?
Or, were you certain it would make a difference,
in future generations?   

I wonder,
how many people today see each living thing
as a part of the whole.   
How many are aware of the connection?

For even in the dark,
something guided you to move beyond.
Were you seeking a light out there,
or had you discovered the Sacred within?

Today, your head hangs on a wall,
but not your essence.
Where did it go?
Is it influencing those who are cognizant
of your life-changing ways?

Beautiful expression of Spirit,
show me when to run with the herd,
when to find a less inhabited field to graze alone,
and when to sacrifice,
so another might find the joy of
healing, wholeness and freedom.
