Earth, Water, Air, Fire…

Earth, Water, Air, Fire…and you, do you sense the interconnectedness?

There may come a time when you grasp each element, creature, person and everything, so thoroughly interconnected that they seem much like one, big family. Maybe you remember it that way early on. If so, when did you segregate creation into manageable pieces?

Opening to oneness may come through a mystical experience or one small step of faith at a time. Chances are, it will take a catalytic event, or perhaps even a crisis of faith.

What does that look like?

When a way of thinking or a structure of beliefs no longer meets you in the same way, you feel unearthed. Bedlam ensues. If, however, you remain true, the experience will lead you to personal wholeness and a collective oneness.

How do you remain true?

Do you follow the whispers of Sacred within, even when those closest to you disagree? Can you discern between people needing you to be who they want you to be and wise counsel?

Living into compassionate wholeness is not easy.

In the practical day-to-day, it might necessitate letting another have their way. It may mean not getting credit when credit is due.

Earthquakes, floods, tornados and raging wildfires. Who does not know how to push back and fight for what they want? Is this the time to do that or will lasting change come through humility? Ask the question. The answer will not always be the same. Pause to consider, What is the most life-giving response in this moment?

Sometimes oneness means refusing to take a side. Are you prepared to feel lonely?

As you become more empathetic, people will exclude you for including who they hold prejudices against. And no matter how trustworthy you’ve been, it will take time before there is communal grace again.

It may be in the waiting time that you develop a deep relationship with nature and her elements as Earth grounds you, Water invites you into the flow, Air offers breath. And then one day you wake up with a fire inside, a renewed passion for life.

Making Spirit Flesh*

How has Earth healed or grounded you?
In what ways have you experienced the Divine flow, letting emotions, like water, flow through you, allowing them to inform, rather than distract you?
Describe how breathing Air has calmed your over active thought life? Did you notice your mind giving equal voice to body and spirit?
And Fire: When was the last time you woke up with a renewed passion for life?
