Hum of Happiness

If it’s not giving up, what is it? Contentment? Hope? I don’t know precisely, but there is a hum of happiness that comes with accepting what is and finding satisfaction in the moment.

This hum is truer than pretending that all is well, when it is not. It is neither deep joy, nor ignoring what needs to be processed or addressed.

The Western world teaches us to fight back, try harder, accomplish more and to become improved versions of ourselves. In short, to do what is necessary to make it happen. This advice may bring success in the work world, but does not awaken us spiritually.

We cannot achieve transformation; we can only make ourselves available to be done unto. Transformation is a complete overhaul of the psyche (soul). It alters our perspective, emotions, relationships and worldview.

Frequently, loss is the invitation. And there, we learn to trust the Sacred within.

If you have undergone such a change, you’ve learned to hold profound grief alongside an inner knowing that all is moving toward re-creation. You have wept with the saints, but have you found Little Flower Eagle’s hum?

Hummingbird season is winding down in the Northern Hemisphere. I’m going to miss hearing Hummers darting around blooms and feeders in our garden.

Winter, however, is coming and they must leave to survive. Because the journey to warmer climates is treacherous, many do not live.

It is true for us, as well. There is a risk in moving beyond our current circumstances, and another in remaining.

Which is more hazardous, for you? Evolving can be uncomfortable. Is finding the hum of happiness worth a period of discomfort?

Outwardly, Creation invites us to join in her song. Inwardly, we can welcome each thought and emotion that comes. Once we are able to explore our reactions, as informants, we give curious contentment a chance to become the norm.

Just as Hummingbirds bring levity to our days, so also a cheery tune can ease our load of heavier circumstances. If you’ve lost your zeal, try joining Hummingbird in a hum of happiness.

In the midst of grieving this collective shadow storm, are you able to experience joy, too? Do you hear the hum?
