The Dark Night; Part One

Dark Night of the Soul

The dark night lays a pall over life and sorrow responds with a knock on heart’s door. Acknowledge the pall, hear the knock and do not be afraid to open the door.

Sadness is your friend. Listen to the howling wind as it wails and allow it to unnerve your confident ego. Accept the invitation out into the rich melancholy knowing there is nothing concrete that will stabilize your uncertainty. Be still in the night and receive. Feel it. Allow it to express itself.

There, in the dark, with sorrow swirling all around, commune in the depths. Grieve the dreams that were not realized. Weep over life’s mistakes. Lament the deaths that have left you alone. Cry, moan and mourn until you are able to compose a dirge. Be lonely until your spirit swells with the fullness that being alone does finally bring.
